These traction law properties are common to all types of traction laws used in MPM simulations, although not all properties will be used by all traction laws.

Traction Failure Properties

The common properties all deal with conditions for failure of the traction loading.

Property Description Units Default
JIc Mode I toughness or area under the opening mode traction law energy release units none
JIIc Mode II toughness or area under the sliding mode traction law energy release units none
sigmaI Peak traction in the mode I (or opening mode) traction law pressure units none
sigmaII Peak traction in the mode II (or sliding mode) traction law pressure units none
delIc Critical crack opening displacement for the mode I (or opening mode) traction law length units none
delIIc Critical crack opening displacement for the mode II (or sliding mode) traction law length units none
nmix The n parameter is the mixed-mode failure criterion. Using nmix<0 it creates a decoupled failure criterion where the traction law fails when either mode I or mode II traction reaches their critical COD none 1

Some traction laws may require more properties to define their shape and failure and may redefine the meanings of these property. Refer to each traction laws definition for the specifics.
